While there are currently no UAV programs in the Alaska, the University of Alaska Fairbanks has plans to start a drone program by fall of 2015, as part of their Engineering department. The emphasis of this program will be on the technology that enables UAV’s to fly.
It is also worth noting that the University of Alaska was 1 of only 6 test sites chosen by the FAA as part of their program to integrate drones into the National Airspace System. The university currently flies drones for research into climate change, volcanoes, and wildlife. Considering this, I expect it is only a matter of time before more drone education programs become available in the Last Frontier.
