Unfortunately, there are no institutions of higher learning in Arkansas that offer Unmanned Aerial Systems degrees at this time.
It is worth noting that there is at least one drone school in Arkansas, though it is not a college. Beebe High School offers a class to ninth and tenth graders, dedicated to building, programming and operating drones. This is interesting because even a K-12 school district realizes the importance of expending their resources to offer this training.
Not only that, but local TV news stations in Arkansas are using drones in place of new helicopters. Whenever they have a story that needs an aerial perspective, they are hiring local drone photography professionals to shoot the footage instead. Talk about a great idea for a business! UAV technology has reached the point to where it is simply cheaper, easier and more effective to shoot stories with drones.
We’ll let you know if anything changes, but if you live in the Natural State, your best bet at this time might be to check out college-level drone programs in 3 bordering states: Oklahoma, Mississippi and Texas. Please visit our drone school pages dedicated these states.
In the meantime, here is some beautiful video showing the fall colors of the Arkansas Ozarks (taken with a drone of course)…
