If you thought there weren’t any drone schools in Mississippi, you would be wrong. There is at least one college in the Magnolia state that offers UAV classes. Hinds Community College, in Raymond, offers courses in both flying and maintaining drones. These hands-on classes take place at John Bell Williams Airport.
Hinds Community College Unmanned Systems Program
“These courses are designed to familiarize students with UAV simulation software and hardware systems, as well as basic through advanced UAV flight training skills in various sized aircraft. The UAV curriculum can be combined with Hinds’ existing full-scale pilot training degree program or taken as a stand-alone mini-course designed to prepare the student for an entry level pilot position within the UAV industry.”
Hinds has spent $16 million over the last few years (most of it from FAA grants) on its aviation infrastructure, in a effort to attract aviation industries. In addition, the college has signed an agreement with Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, which will allow Hinds permission to use their restricted air space.
The courses offered at Hinds look like a great place to start if you are looking to lay the foundation for a unmanned vehicle education.
